# Use the Diversion tool

> <mark style="color:$danger;">The AvComp Diversion tool is a personal reference aid. Always use approved company, aircraft, ATC, and regulatory sources for operational contingency procedures.</mark>

## <mark style="color:$warning;">What the Diversion tool is</mark>

The Diversion tool is an in-flight contingency procedure reference. It presents FIR or region-based track separation, offset, vertical offset, and step-by-step guidance for common contingency scenarios.

Access it from:

* The Home screen **DIVERSION** tile.

## <mark style="color:$warning;">Main layout</mark>

The screen is divided into four working areas:

1. Region selector.
2. Selected region and ABLE FL toggle.
3. Contingency type tabs.
4. Diagram and step list.

The diagram gives a quick visual reference. The step list gives the current contingency procedure sequence.

## <mark style="color:$warning;">Region selector</mark>

The region selector has two rows.

<figure><img src="/files/qI1jERsYJtfyeFJPaIIn" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### <mark style="color:$warning;">Type row</mark>

The top row groups regions by area:

* Oceanic.
* Middle East.
* Asia.
* Africa.
* Europe.
* Pacific.
* Far East.
* North America.

If a loaded OFP contains FIRs that match a group, AvComp marks that type with a small gold dot.

### <mark style="color:$warning;">FIR row</mark>

The second row shows FIR or region chips inside the selected type. Tap a chip to select that region.

If an OFP is loaded, AvComp tries to match parsed OFP FIR names to Diversion regions and auto-select a relevant region.

## <mark style="color:$warning;">Contingency types</mark>

The left sidebar contains seven contingency tabs:

| Tab        | Use                          |
| ---------- | ---------------------------- |
| WX DEV     | Weather deviation.           |
| NON-WX     | Non-weather track deviation. |
| ENG FAIL   | Engine failure.              |
| DECOMP     | Decompression.               |
| MEDICAL    | Medical emergency.           |
| COMM LOSS  | Communication loss.          |
| FIRE/SMOKE | Fire or smoke.               |

Tap a tab to change the procedure steps shown on the right.

## <mark style="color:$warning;">ABLE FL / NOT ABLE FL</mark>

The ABLE FL toggle changes the selected procedure based on whether the aircraft can maintain its current flight level.

| Setting     | Meaning                                                                           |
| ----------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| ABLE FL | Aircraft can maintain the current flight level. |
| NOT ABLE FL | Aircraft cannot maintain the current flight level or requires descent/drift-down. |

This toggle affects weather deviation and some emergency procedures such as engine failure, decompression, and fire/smoke.

The toggle resets to **ABLE FL** on page load.

## <mark style="color:$warning;">Diagram</mark>

The diagram shows the selected region's track separation picture.

Common elements:

* Centerline track.
* Offset track.
* Turn direction.
* Offset amount.
* SAND arc where applicable.
* ABLE or NOT ABLE badge.

For non-weather contingency tabs, the diagram still uses the selected region's weather-deviation offset data as the FIR track separation reference.

## <mark style="color:$warning;">Step list</mark>

The step list changes based on:

* Selected region.
* Selected contingency type.
* ABLE FL / NOT ABLE FL state.

Weather deviation uses region-specific steps where available. Other contingency types use fixed SOP-style step sequences and apply the selected region's diagram for offset reference.

## <mark style="color:$warning;">Weather deviation workflow</mark>

1. Select the relevant region or FIR.
2. Select **WX DEV**.
3. Choose **ABLE FL** or **NOT ABLE FL**.
4. Review the offset and turn direction in the diagram.
5. Follow the step list as a reference only.
6. Monitor fuel and return-to-track guidance.

The weather deviation steps include the SAND rule:

> SAND - South Ascend / North Descend 300 ft.

## <mark style="color:$warning;">Engine failure workflow</mark>

1. Select the relevant region or FIR.
2. Select **ENG FAIL**.
3. Set **ABLE FL** if the aircraft can continue at assigned FL.
4. Set **NOT ABLE FL** if drift-down or descent is required.
5. Review the step list.

In NOT ABLE FL mode, the procedure includes drift-down and minimizing rate of descent.

## <mark style="color:$warning;">Decompression workflow</mark>

1. Select the relevant region or FIR.
2. Select **DECOMP**.
3. Use **NOT ABLE FL** when emergency descent is required.
4. Review the step sequence and diagram.

In NOT ABLE FL mode, the procedure includes emergency descent to FL100 or MEA, whichever is higher.

## <mark style="color:$warning;">Medical emergency workflow</mark>

1. Select **MEDICAL**.
2. Review the step list.
3. Use the selected region diagram only as a track separation reference if deviation or diversion is required.

Medical steps do not change with the ABLE FL toggle.

## <mark style="color:$warning;">Communication loss workflow</mark>

1. Select **COMM LOSS**.
2. Review the step list.
3. Confirm applicable communication-loss procedures from approved sources.

Communication-loss steps do not change with the ABLE FL toggle.

## <mark style="color:$warning;">Fire or smoke workflow</mark>

1. Select **FIRE/SMOKE**.
2. Set **ABLE FL** or **NOT ABLE FL** based on whether descent is required.
3. Review the step list and diagram.

In NOT ABLE FL mode, the procedure includes a descent step.

## <mark style="color:$warning;">OFP matching</mark>

When an OFP is loaded, AvComp reads FIR entries from the OFP waypoint list and compares them with the Diversion region database.

Matched route regions are highlighted with gold dots in the selector. If no route match is found, all regions remain available manually.

## <mark style="color:$warning;">Storage</mark>

The Diversion tool stores:

* Last selected region.
* Last selected contingency type.

It does not persist the ABLE FL toggle. That toggle defaults to **ABLE FL** each time the page loads.

## <mark style="color:$warning;">Limitations</mark>

* The tool is a reference aid, not an approved contingency checklist.
* Region coverage depends on the app's built-in database.
* Some contingency types use fixed step sequences rather than region-specific procedure text.
* Only weather deviation has per-region procedure data in the current dataset.
* OFP FIR matching is best-effort and should be checked manually.

## <mark style="color:$warning;">Recommended use</mark>

1. Load the OFP before flight so AvComp can highlight route-relevant FIRs.
2. Open Diversion before entering areas where a procedure review may be useful.
3. Confirm the selected FIR manually.
4. Review ABLE FL and NOT ABLE FL differences before they are needed.
5. Treat the diagram and steps as memory aids only.
